This is one of a few songs I wrote on the staircase of the house I was living in at the time. The stairwell, with its high ceiling had great acoustics for both guitar and vocal. I had suddenly found myself quite lonely with literally all of my friends going overseas for holidays, work, and in one most important case, permanent relocation.
lyrics
Here we are again at the top of the hill
Wouldn’t it be nice to be down again
Swinging like fire on a telephone wire
Wouldn’t it be nice to be down again
I made a couple of friends but they don’t write
They don’t write, but that’s alright
I found a couple of reasons but they don’t rhyme
They don’t rhyme, they haven’t got the time but
Here we are again at the top of the hill
Wouldn’t it be nice to be down again
Swinging like fire on a telephone wire
Wouldn’t it be nice to be down again
I did a lot of talking but no one heard
No one heard, no not a word
I did a lot of laughing but no one cared
No one cared, I think I should have said that
Do, re, me, fa, so, la toe
I don’t know where to go and I don’t know who to know
One, two, three, four, five, six, eight
I better not wait it’ll be too late, but
Here we are again at the top of the hill
Wouldn’t it be nice to be down again
Swinging like fire on a telephone wire
Wouldn’t it be nice to be down again
